Kristian Bertel has contributed to the National Geographic Your Shot community with an assignment called ‘My Best Photos of August 2018’. Curated by David Y. Lee, a producer at Nat Geo Your Shot he wants to see the best of the best. They will be looking for images that tell powerful stories on their own and the special care to giving detailed background in our captions. The images selected for the final story will have wowed us with their composition, and with their compelling captions. Photos that for this Your Shot assignment should be our photos taken during August 2018.

About the submitted photograph
With the photographer’s submitted photograph for this assignment he Pushkar is a small town that counts as one of the few pilder cities in India. Believers come from all over India to bathe in sacred Pushkar Lake. But there are also many things to see for tourists. Pushkar is a traveler’s paradise with a long tradition and that has experience, light and dark sides and the cityscape near the ghats is dominated by souvenir shops and tourist pubs that offer everything a traveler’s heart could desire.
On the other hand, the rogue is also at home here, in a particularly hypocritical way. Behind this is the idea that everyone must go through a kind of initiation procedure on their first visit to Pushkar and the Brahman are careful that nobody can escape this ritual and the subsequent donation.
Picturesque between the hills and dunes, the Pushkar Lake are undoubtedly one of the most fascinating religious sites in India. The gods themselves have sanctified this place. Over the course of time, more than fifty bathing ghats and more than four hundred temples have settled around the lake. Of the bathing ghats, the Varah Ghat is considered to be specially sanctified, as Vishnu once appeared here in the form of a boar. The other two main ghats, the Brahma Ghat and the Gau Ghat, are also particularly important for the ritual ablutions.
”- Begging is most prevalent anywhere there are tourists. This includes important monuments, railway stations, religious and spiritual sites and shopping districts. In big cities, beggars will often be found at major traffic intersections as well, where they approach vehicles while the lights are red”, the photographer Kristian Bertel says.
